All Hallows eve....

Jamie Lee Curtis made her movie debut in the thriller , "HALLOWEEN." The movie was supposed to be set in the little Midwestern town of Haddonfield, Illinois. But those tree-lined residential streets were really right here in sunny California.
One of those streets was Orange Grove Avenue in suburban Hollywood, just north of Sunset Blvd., where two of the film's familiar houses are still to be found.

Much of the action in the movie took place in the Doyle residence, where Jamie was baby-sitting Tommy. This house is located at 1530 N. Orange Grove Avenue.

That's on the east side of Orange Grove Ave.,
between Sunset Blvd & Selma Ave.

Her best friend, Annie, was murdered while baby-sitting in the Wallace residence across the street (the house with the jack-o-lantern on the porch), at 1537 N. Orange Grove Avenue.

That's on the west side of Orange Grove Ave.,
between Sunset Blvd & Selma Ave.

OK, so I looked exactly like the little girl from the Poltergeist when I was young. I was not allowed to watch the movie because I was not old enough. When I was about 12 I watched it for the first time and it scared me! Anyway, this is what the house looks like today and hopefully whoever lives there do not experience any supernatural beings.

Prices on fame

I love the movie Disturbia. It is mostly due to the craftsman home used in the movie. So I was surprised to see it is for sale, at 6222 Painter Ave in
Whittier, CA you can purchase this house for only $1,250,000! I little more than I'm willing to pay-LOL. 5 Bed, 4 Bath, 4,100 Sq Ft on 0.6 Acres (26,250 Sq Ft Lot) is what you get for the price.

Two words- Dirty Dancing. LOVE IT. The resort where baby stayed is actually the Mountain Lake resort in Pembroke, Virgina. Rates start at $400.00.

In the movie Wedding Crashers there are several locations that are beautiful. The affluent couple getting married hold a wedding reception and in reality it is filmed at The Inn at Perry Cabin. St Michaels, Maryland by the Chesapeake, is where this gem is located and rates start as low as $190.00.

Now go relax....

A Taste of Plantation

I will really have to do my homework to go all the way with this, so this is just a taste of what I'm learning about plantation roles in film.

The Oak Alley Plantation

The Following were filmed here at what I would like to call "my dreams realized" plantation. It's GORGEOUS!

Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte
Bette Davis. Exterior shots only. Subsequent production changes limited originally predicted film time at Oak Alley.

Nightrider
Filmed in October of 1978, starring David Selby.

Dixie: Changing Habits
September of 1982. For CBS television, starring Suzanne Pleshette and Cloris Leachman. Filmed entirely on location at Oak Alley Plantation and the French Quarter in New Orleans.

Days of our Lives
Segment of NBC Daytime Television Series ("Soap Opera") filmed at Oak Alley in mid 1984 during the World's Fair in New Orleans. One day, dawn to dark, film session starring Peter Reckell (Bo Brady) and Kristian Alfonso (Hope Welch). Aired on NBC in August of 1984 with numerous flashbacks over the years. Exterior shots and a balcony scene at mansion.

The Long Hot Summer
Produced for NBC and filmed on location at Oak Alley in April of 1985. A made-for-television version of the original 1958 motion picture which starred Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, this cast included such celebrities as Don Johnson, Cybill Shepherd, Jason Robards, Judith Ivey and Ava Gardner.

Interview with a Vampire
A Warner Brothers/Finewood Studios production, in conjunction with Geffen Pictures, starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Based on the Anne Rice best seller by the same name. The film featured Oak Alley as Louis' homeplace. Some graveyard scenes and the loading dock scenes were filmed here as well. October 1993.

Primary Colors
A Universal Picture Production starring John Travolta, Emma Thompson, Kathy Bates, Bill Bob Thornton, Larry Hagman, Maura Tierney, and Adrian Lester, based on the novel "Primary Colors" by Joe Klein. Houses that were tore down?

The Amityville Horror House. This house was not tore down but, after the murders happened in the house authorities wanted to tear down and burn the home. Whether this was due to the murders or the laughable belief that the house was evil I'm not sure. Anyway, they kept the house and now the new owners redid the outside of the home opting to take out the "eye" windows and putting in traditional ones.
Just like heaven victorian. They wanted to tear down this house because of damage done by wind and wood rot. They did not tear it down! It still is very much apart of the landscape.

Party of Five home. Never watched the series but this house is still standing in San Fran.

What Lies beneath. Yes! They did tear it down. Many people wanted to buy the home but they opted to tear down the home.

Modern-done right

When a stranger calls is a pretty simple horror movie a remake from the 70's. What I absolutely adore about the movie is the house where the action takes place. The front of the home is all glass and it sits overlooking a lake.

In the middle of the home is a glass pond and bird habitat. BEAUTIFUL!!!

If you haven't seen this movie before go get it so you can muse at this beautiful piece of art.

As far as modern goes this next house also needs to be mentioned. In the wonderful film "The Holiday" Camaron Diaz & Kate Winslet switch places for the holidays. Great movie as well as several beautiful locations. This one is Amanda's (Diaz's character)home in L.A. Here is the front and some other rooms that compliment her character and is a centerpiece for the movie.

I will probably list the other locations of this movie in other posts. They have several!

Scream filmed in California

As soon as I start watching the movie Scream the seting catches my eye. The rural home in corn fields. As Drew Barrymore talks, beautiful french doors open to a pool and what looks like a pool house.

Then we move on to the main characters Sydneys home. Stunning! The land without the home is breathtaking but with it is absoloutly amazing. This is located in Santa Rosa, Ca.

The view from the back...

They last set I will mention is the farmhouse where the killers are reviled. This is located in Tomales, Ca. Seeing this house made me think of apple pies and a classic hardworking farmhouse.
